2. Adult in financing

At one point we all need to step up and become the adult in our life. Spend now pay later is not a good philosophy. That philosophy for many, including me, has caused much heart ache and regret over the years. At one point, I said no more and drew a line in the sand. The sand was shifting so much, and I was tired of it, and I wanted something better. I needed to decide that I want something different and more in my life. It was hard work and there was pain and tears involved but so far, it’s been so worth it.

Small steps to move me forward came in a form of a budget. I personally love spreadsheets and I used that format to help us in our household. (P.S. Budgets and spreadsheets are scary words. I know, but we can discuss and make it even simpler). I started to learn and grow by finding new ways in paying off debt and putting aside the money. I made the decision that I needed to use credit cards to make tracking more simply. Your decision might be different. When you spend too much money … suddenly there is a bill you don’t expect. The credit card “time lag” I figured out was and is a killer. The spreadsheet was set up so that I could track my dedicated day to day bank account and anticipated spending verses spent items.

I am thankful that I heard about a new philosophy and my philosophy about money needed to change to it.

“Keep yourself mentally broke” Dexter Yager.

In creating a system for myself to “Keep myself mentally broke” I utilized, 3 bank accounts and spreadsheets in the process. My main spread sheet was used in tracking finances and to keep me mentally broke. Even though I may have $1000 in my one bank account I allocated all my money within the spread sheet. So, I didn’t have extra money in the bank account. That money was accounted for, and I was mentally broke. The 3-bank account system allowed me to keep on track as well.

  1. Cash spending. 2 Day-to-day expenses 3 Saving & emergency expenses.

Sure, I spent some money on bank fee’s but overall, it has been worth it.

At one point in history, society gave control up to the government and they became the adult in most of our financing. If you are an employee your paychecks have taxes deducted and the government takes control. They became the adult in financing through tax collections.

When you do the work and create your financial system, it will not be easy, it will take some time, but you can correct your money philosophy. There is hope. You can choose to be the adult in financing for your household.
